Trauma Tree

lyrics

The brain is here
The mind is there
The heart is near
The soul is far away
The body grows another year

What better way to spend a year than to count up my sufferings
There’s so many rings on this tree that they’ve started marbling
And it’s beautiful to watch them collect and collide like an oil spill

It never stops, its just waxes and wanes like a childish moon
I only sit and sometimes, it sheds some light on the things I do
Summer comes and theres a memory adding to the rings on the trauma tree
Winter’s here and last year’s ordeal is hung like a Christmas ornament would be

If I could make it into an animal I would be a cat
To stay indoors and occasionally purr when I stroke its back
It might run away for a while but I know it always finds its way home
I have worried about it for so long I don’t worry much anymore
